Trevor Elkins has over ten years of experience in executive management, municipal finance, recruiting, and human resources. He served nearly two decades in public office. He has managed local, regional, and national campaigns for 20 years.
Trevor is a supporter of progressive policies. He proudly backs political and social changes that advance the interests of average citizens. Capitalizing on his diverse, broad background, Trevor has already impacted nationwide change through local initiatives.
Trevor has nearly completed his bachelor’s degree in Humanities at Ursuline College and plans to finish in the next year after decades of already working in the political sector. Throughout his college years, Trevor has studied history, art, foreign languages, music, drama, literature, philosophy, and religion while fine-tuning his communication and cognitive thinking skills. As a social justice leader, Trevor is fascinated with the spectrum of humanity’s capabilities.
As a 20-year-old, Trevor began work in his first support role. He was elected to his first position in public office on the Palmyra-Macedon NY Board of Education. Along with eight other members, Trevor was tasked with vital decisions affecting his community. Some resolutions included overall school budget approval, the selection of a new Superintendent, the distribution of millions of dollars from local, state, and governmental taxes, the courses on the curriculum, and which texts, tools, and technology need to be purchased. The school board also ensured that the district’s education plan complied with state laws and regulations. Since that time, he has spent over two decades assisting various local, state, and federal political candidates, handling responsibilities like fundraising, staff resourcing, consulting, management, and organizing.
Over the next decade, an innate talent for sourcing and placing personnel led Trevor to his role as a VP and recruiter for various industrial and executive recruiting firms. All of the firms Trevor worked with were members of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a group of HR leaders worldwide.
Prior to his role as Mayor, Trevor Elkins served as the Fiscal Officer for several municipalities and public institutions, including Newburgh Heights, which he prevented from going under state fiscal control. During this period, Trevor managed AP/AR accounts and employee payroll and reconciled budgets as high as $20 million. For ten years, Trevor served as Mayor of Newburgh Heights. During his tenure, he put into effect a wide range of public policies, such as a grant program for student loans, a comprehensive family leave policy, a minimum educational standard for police, 32-hour work weeks, a $15 minimum wage, and employee insurance without a deductible.
